Conversation hour was a bit more successful than I remember. It was usually held in the Union Ballroom but the Friday Halloween, there were festivities held in the “cafeteria” of the William Center.
There was also a costume competition held during Conversation Hour that really shed light on what was popular to what group of people. There were Japanese people dressed in Pokemon costumes and several Eastern European students dressed as vampires. Seeing some of the international students laugh at those in the stereotypical costumes made for an all-too-quick hour.
This conversation hour reminded me how fun it is to laugh at ourselves every once in a while. Foreign students understand entertainment as well as domestic students the hilarity of stereotypes and the awareness of them.
