When Dr. Lee gave us a more accurate look at life in Korea, I was embarrassed at my ignorance. Jokes have always been prevalent when it came to many Asian countries, one of which was the consumption of dogs. She informed us it was true, but true only for Korea. People there were suffering from extreme hunger and poverty. Dogs were animals no different from chickens. They weren’t pets, they were just another animal that roamed.
She also made it clear that they do not practice this anymore. Koreans aren’t suffering like they were at that time and thus, there is an abundance of food that surpasses the availability of the time.
The visit really made me aware of how easy it is for me to take information as fact without taking the time to review it. Great visit.
